Vocabulary
Objectives
 To learn new Spanish and English vocabulary.
 To become familiar with numerals.

Materials
 Paper and markers
 Classroom object box

A. Write the word DOG on the board. Ask the class if anyone knows what the Spanish word is for
dog. If they do, ask them if they can spell it. Write the word PERRO on the board and explain
that this is how you say dog in Spanish. Have the class say the word perro together.

Optional – gato : cat

    1. Put cards with the numerals 1 through 10 around the room. Ask students to say the number in
either English or Spanish (or both) or other languages that might be spoken in your classroom.
Call on students to select from a box of classroom objects. Ask them to pick one object and place
it under the numeral one, have another child pick two objects and place them under the numeral
two and so on until you reach the number ten.

    2. Do any students know the Spanish word for cat (gato)? Write the word on the board and have
students tell you about all the things the cat is doing throughout the book.
